AMC shows are now streaming on Max – here are 3 scary good series to watch first

As part of a short-term deal, Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming service Max (formerly called HBO Max) is offering an assortment of AMC shows to its subscribers starting Friday. The “programming pop-up” will include AMC+ series like Fear the Walking Dead, A Discovery of Witches and Killing Eve along with its library of classics. It will run from September 1 through October 31.

If you are not yet a Max subscriber, here are three scary good series you can start watching this weekend:

1. Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects

This supernatural thriller doesn’t overtly scream Halloween, but it has all the markings of a terrifying story. With an unsettling tone throughout, it’s a riveting drama that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This exceptional limited series also marks the last time Jean-Marc Vallee directed a television show, and his haunting visuals will stay with you long after the season ends.

2. The Terror

This chilling historical horror series blends elements of supernatural horror with a gripping narrative about the fictionalized account of two real-life British naval expeditions that searched for the Northwest Passage. It’s a captivating and atmospheric series with a sense of history that is unlike any other. It’s one of the best-produced and most immersive shows on TV, and it is now available to watch on Max through its AMC+ Picks on Max hub.

3. Black Mirror

Charlie Brooker’s critically acclaimed anthology is a terrifying look into the future. Its near-future dystopias use horror and science fiction to explore the complexities of our modern world. With standout episodes such as USS Callister, San Junipero and Nosedive, it is a must-watch for anyone who loves to be unsettled.

4. The Haunting of Hill House

Mike Flanagan has proven himself to be a master of modern horror on television. From the two iterations of The Haunting of Hill House to the creepy Bly Manor, he understands the relationship between horror and the human psyche better than anyone. Plus, his shows are all thrills with genuine scares and deeply complex characters.

5. The Killing

This award-winning crime drama is a must-watch for any fan of television. It follows homicide detective Sarah Linden, played by Mireille Enos and her partner Stephen Holder, portrayed by Joel Kinnaman. It tackles the complexities of murder cases, examining the impact they have on the lives of those involved. The series is filled with a riveting story and compelling characters, and it will soon be available to stream on Max through its AMC+ Picks of Max hub.

As the rumors swirl about what will happen with HBO and its standalone streaming service, we can only hope that other cable networks will follow suit. Hopefully, more AMC content will be on its way to streaming platforms, including Max, in the near future. This is a great way to expand the selection of available content for subscribers and attract new viewers. If this deal can be replicated, it could help Max compete with other services such as Hulu, which recently struck a similar partnership with Hallmark that will keep its original content on the platform for a limited window.
