Todd Howard just teased a 2024 Indiana Jones reveal

Since Bethesda first announced its Indiana Jones game in 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting more information about the unique genre-mashup that MachineGames (best known for Wolfenstein: The New Order) is crafting. The company recently revealed that the development process is about halfway through, and while the game may not be ready for a 2024 release, it seems like we won’t have to wait too much longer for a substantial look at this Indy adventure.

In a new interview with Esquire, Bethesda exec Todd Howard teased that there will be more to see from the Indiana Jones game next year. The interview primarily focused on Starfield, the space-faring game that’s now available for everyone to play on Xbox Series X/S and PC, but Howard did offer up a small tidbit about the Indy project.

When asked if the game would be ready for 2024, Howard replied, “we’ll talk next year.” That may not be a lot to go on, but it does provide hope that we won’t have to wait too long to see what the team has been working on.

It’s worth noting that, although he didn’t give any more details on the game, Howard was quite enthusiastic about talking about it. He seemed like he wanted to say more, but was perhaps constrained by the interview’s limits. Still, he made it clear that the team was very excited about the project and that he’s looking forward to sharing more about it soon.

The first hint that this Indiana Jones game will be a bit different from your standard blockbuster was revealed in 2021, when Howard noted that the game would focus on the character’s early years as he forged his legend. The studio also stated that the game would be an action-adventure, and that it would be set in a time period before World War II. While there have been no official details on what the gameplay will be like, it’s been rumored that the game will mix both first and third-person perspectives.

As for the platform that the game will release on, that’s been confirmed in the past as an exclusive to Xbox and PC. Pete Hines, who was a developer on the original trilogy of films and is now at Bethesda, confirmed as much during testimony at an FTC hearing in June of this year.

The upcoming Indy video game will have to wait until 2024 at the earliest, but for now, you can enjoy the latest Starfield or keep an eye out for the aforementioned reveal. Be sure to check out the interview in its entirety by heading over to Esquire’s website. It’s a great read for anyone interested in learning more about the game.
